You can grow your own food. We can help.

White Rock Local Garden

White Rock Local Garden is a project of White Rock Local Market, Inc. (WRLM), a 501 (c)(3)non-profit  that operates a growers-only farmers market and several other programs. WRLM was created in 2009 by a few neighbors with the idea that a neighborhood farmers market would improve the health and quality of life in east Dallas. Now starting its sixth market season, the organization has grown into a weekly, year-round market that supports over 100 vendors and offers healthy, locally grown options.

Our mission at WRLM is to strengthen the local food economy and create awareness of the social, environmental and health benefits of growing and eating local food. Our community garden brings people together around food, one of the ageless definitions of community.

The garden shares our broader mission to be an agent of community-building and an educational resource.  This garden is accessible in all ways, as a welcoming place for novices and master gardeners, from local homeowners to nearby apartment dwellers.

East Dallas is rich in cultural and economic diversity, with many lower income residents at risk of nutritionally related disease. The garden provides a venue to hold classes/events to bring this awareness to our community. Our short-term goals at the Garden are to install the infrastructure needed for a functioning, community oriented, accessible, shared garden space. This includes: completing all of the necessary raised beds, wheel chair accessible walkways and wheel chair accessible raised beds, finishing the already donated chicken coop, furnishing the common area with work tables, shade, and storage facilities, acquiring tools and equipment and installing a rain collection system.

Ultimately the garden will be a self-sustaining space that operates with funds raised from selling produce at market, water from rainwater collection system, and a garden that grows food for its members and the surrounding community.
