Washington County Healty Living Senior Garden

The Washington County “Health Living Gardening Project” is designed to assist Senior Citizens in and around the small town Brenham, Texas which is located in the South-Central part of the state.  The goal of this garden site is to provide residents with the opportunity to return to their roots and participate in a gardening project that provides them with recreation, exercise and a chance to socialize with other seniors.  More importantly, with the recent rise in food prices, these and other Senior Citizens will benefit from the project by being able to supplement their food budgets by utilizing the healthy vegetables grown on the 2 acre garden site.

The Washington County Healthy Living Association Senior Activity Center currently provides 300-400 meals per week to seniors in the community.  Produce grown in the garden will assist the center to provide health meals with a variety of fresh, locally grown, seasonal products.   Additionally, the center will help home-bound Senior Citizens to benefit from the vegetables grown in the garden by distributing them through another non-profit organization that feeds Senior Citizens in the county.
