Trousdale County Senior Center Garden

Gardening is part of our history here in Hartsville, Tennessee going back many generations.  One of the joys of getting a bit older is having the time to putter around in a garden.  And, it is always nice spending time with others who share your same interests.  This year at our Senior Center we started a "gardening group".  We meet once a month and share seeds, plants, veggies, pictures, advice and of course stories.  We would like to outreach and share with more seniors and others in our community.  Our plan is to create a 400 square foot raised garden bed on the property at the Senior Center.  We would have the beds raised to waist height for more seniors to participate and fenced in to keep the deer and other critters out.  We are very lucky to have the land and the know-how to facilitate this project.  We feel confident that we can get volunteers (including the work inmate program) within our community for the building and heavy work.  Unfortunately, we have not funds!  Our goal is to have a garden that our seniors could come and be a part of either by working in it, sharing what is produced or just a place to make friends and share stories.  Hopefully our bounty will be blessed by God and we can share with those in need within our county.
