TMS Garden Club

TMS Garden Club's began in August of 2013.  We had a Kick-off for the garden on August 24, 2013 and over 100 people showed up to help!!!!! This included Lowe's Heroes Project, who donated $2400 in materials to help us get started.  Our mission is to provide fresh vegetables to the local soup kitchens.  We have partnered with businesses, community groups, master gardeners, school staff, parents, volunteers and our students to create a 20,000 square foot garden.   We have 14 teachers with a worm bin in their room creating worm castings for use in the garden. Everybody donating their time and energy to help our community.  The TMS Garden Club has donated tomatoes, lettuce, egg plant, cucumbers, squash, zucchini, beets, collard, brussel sprouts, radishes, and cabbage this far.  The total weight of the vegetables donated is over 700 pounds as of 1/4/13 THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING.  Our hope is to continue to maintain and sustain this garden for future years.  We are starting our second planting now and hope to have a total of 2,000 pounds (one ton) of vegetables donated to the soup kitchen by the end of the school year.  The local soup kitchens serve 800 meals per day and are thankful for TMS Garden Club's contribution.  We plan to continue this project, when school is not in session (summer), to provide for the less fortunate.
