Tampa Eden Project
Tampa Eden Project is a grassroots organization based in Tampa Fl. We fight against the injustice of hunger by supporting several garden initiatives. So far, we have installed residential vegetable gardens, held a health fair, participated in local farmers markets, and started a few community gardens. We are interested in whatever new ways there are to help fight against hunger, malnutrition and inequality in the food system!
Our new main location, the Ybor St. Community Garden, is a year old and rapidly growing. It seeks to benefit members of the surrounding neighborhood. Ybor City is an inner-city area with many hungry families and homeless individuals. We are working with The Well food pantry, which is open daily and serves over eighty people a week. They have much processed and canned food but little fresh produce. Tampa Eden Project is dedicated to partnering with other gardens and groceries to distribute fresh produce through this food pantry to the community.
Our main goal is to produce as much food as possible. This location boasts communal beds as well as beds that are dedicated to production for the food pantry stock. Our secondary goal is to educate on a variety of ways to grow their own food. We have hydroponic system, raised beds, and container gardens at this time as demonstration. Our last goal is to foster community.
KGI is a nonprofit community of over 30,000 people who are growing some of our own food and helping others to do the same.
