I am a beginner gardener and new to Minnesota. I would love to here specifics of the garden tasks you are accomplishing right now or planning for the next week, so I can get going! If you tell me what you are doing, that will help me know what I can be doing, too! Thanks! If you have a blog about gardening in Minnesota, please post the link! Plus: I would love to hear your thoughts on growing my crops of interest (keep in mind I'm a newbie): asparagus, beets, broccoli, cabbage, carrot, kale, calendula, cucumbers-and-yellow-squash (I'd like to do on trellis), cilantro, rhubarb, spinach, microgreens, lettuce, bell peppers, melons, pumpkin, sunflower
Get a few books first! Then find out your climate zone. When is your last frost? What type of soil do you have. How much space do you have? I am in Vermont (Zone 4) and the last frost is in late May. I garden on 17 inch tall raised beds. I bought top soil from the locally owned garden center and filled them, then added composted cow manure. I bought heirloom tomato plants about ten inches tall, hardened them every day outside for a week, and planted them today. I planted broccoli rapini, onions, butterhead lettuce, baby bok choi, tatsoi, carrots, and beets three weeks ago. I planted garlic last fall. I planted asparagus last week. I will be planting basil, bush beans and other less hardy plants in the next week or so. I have built a small greenhouse with 1/2" pvc electrical tubing by attaching it to my tomato and basil bed to protect them until frost free. I hope this helps you.
