The VA San Diego Medical Center used the $300.00 grant to purchase an "OGROW" Greenhouse and additional food waste bins for the cafeteria coffee grounds and the VA Organic Farmers' Market green waste. The $100.00 gift card from the "Gardener's Supply Company was used to purchase 3 Seed Starter kits for the Greenhouse, 2 water level indicators, 24 wooden markers for identification of plantings, Easy Grow fertilizer, 9 quarts of germinating mix,, and Biofertilizer for seedlings. The Garden Planner subscription was used to design an "American Flag" garden with red, white, and blue vegetables and flowers. The Garden team is planning on having the design ready for harvesting and blooming on Veterans Day 2014. The American Flag Garden will be located on the hill adjacent to Interstate 5 for all travelers to see. The Composting area is producing 6 cubic yards of compost every 3 weeks. Currently, the compost is being used in landscape projects and the Wellness Garden.
