I'm ready to start the garden up for the year! I have my round bed in the front that I've decided to turn into a perennial bed -- this will be almost exclusively strawberries and asparagus, with a bit of rhubarb and borage mixed in with it. I managed to pick up an awesome used staircase plant stand at a yard sale a couple weeks back, and that is now gracing the middle of the bed with plant holders containing some deeeelish sugar snaps that the kiddos helped me plant. Bonus that they'll have the "banister railing" of the plant stand to climb and hang down on... and some are high enough the kids can't reach them, so we might get to cook with some of our peas this year (and save the peas for next season)! I am also going to try my hand at some potted lemons this year... I know, it doesn't quite get warm enough, but I plant to keep them trimmed small and in their pots, so I can bring them inside for the winter. So far I have about 7 meyer lemon trees growing... I won't get to keep them all though, so I may need to find a couple new homes eventually!
