Homemade Hibiscus Ginger Ale
Try this recipe to create a deliciously light, and refreshing ginger ale with a beautiful crimson hue.
2 tablespoons organic hibiscus flowers (Hibiscus sabdariffa), dried
1/4 cup ginger root, unpeeled, roughly chopped
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 lemon for juice
1/2 lemon for garnish
1 cup water
Combine the hibiscus flowers, ginger root sugar, lemon juice, and water to a saucepan and stir. Bring to a boil over medium heat, constantly stirring until the sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat. Steep for 25 minutes. Strain the syrup into a bottle. Dispose of the flowers and ginger root. This will make enough syrup to serve approximately six to eight glasses of ginger ale.
To make ginger ale, add 3-4 tablespoons of the syrup an 8-ounce glass of sparkling water. Stir. Garnish with a lemon wedge.
Store the syrup in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
Enjoy your bubbly!
