This is the second year for our strawberry bed and it is so overcrowded. When do we thin it out and how far apart should each plant be.
Crops: Topics:
My recommendation is to thin well before plants start to flower and bear fruit or well after. For me in Maine, that would mean April/May or August/September. If you're adding fertility to your soil in the form of compost and mulch, you can plant them close together. Mine are about a foot apart.
