7/21/2013 Living at 4200' elev. summer highs 90-100+ lows 30's-40's with volcanic fast draining soil. We are slowly amending with compost. Does anyone have advice for vegs/flowers that grow in these extremem temps? We also have a small greenhouse with 60% shade cloth. We get winter lows average 12 degrees with -20 lowest low.

How to get eradicate black ants: redoing a 118'x18' school garden; scrapped to hardpan, added layer of cardboard, rice straw, finished compost & wood chips. will have garden boxes & containers atop of chips. seeing black ants (problem from the past) under cardboard layer. suggestions?
