PHA Garden

Project Description:

Plattsburgh Community Garden Group Inc. (PCGG), established in 2009 is partnering with the Plattsburgh Housing Authority to develop a community garden at Leander A. Boyea Court, a subsidized housing project in Plattsburgh NY. The garden project, will primarily serve low income families and individuals.  Other partners in the primary phase of this project include Clinton County Advocacy and Resource Center which serves developmentally disabled residents, Clinton County Health Department and Cornell Cooperative Extension of Clinton, Essex and Franklin Counties, both of which include promoting access to nutritious food among their objectives, and the student based Plattsburgh Food Group at the State University of NY at Plattsburgh. Plattsburgh Community Garden Group is an all-volunteer non-profit 501(c)(3) Inc.

The garden will initially contain twelve 4’x12’ raised beds along with two elevated wheelchair accessible plots. The selected site allows for significant expansion as additional plots are needed.   Construction of the garden is slated for spring 2014. Plattsburgh Community Garden Group Inc. will operate the Garden. PCGG has established by-laws and a successful record of operating teaching gardens in the City of Plattsburgh. Teaching expertise will be supplied by Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners. The SUNY Plattsburgh Food Group will assist with construction of the raised beds and development of the soil.
