You can grow your own food. And we can help!

Pacific Beach Middle School Garden

Project: An outdoor sink to wash hands and rinse off produce would be a huge boon to our garden program. Each week students harvest produce for the cafeteria salad bar and prepare freshly picked veges to snack on during Garden Club.  A garden prep sink would be super sweet!

Since our garden was established in 2010 PBMS Garden Club has enjoyed great success serving the harvest to our students, staff and parents. It started with serving salad in the garden during our school wide Earth Week celebration and has grown to harvesting our produce each week for the school cafeteria salad bar. Our garden and school Library link together to support the garden classroom by sponsoring fun contests for all our students to take part in such as scarecrow decorating, guessing weight of garden grown pumpkins, watermelon seed spitting...using watermelons from our garden of course!  A grow lab in the Library starts seedlings for the garden, students are able to watch the process from seed to table.

Garden Club is an afterschool program run by volunteers. All students are welcome to join at any time. Many students come regularly while others just drop by now and then. Our school garden is a place where students can connect with nature, enjoy time with friends in a relaxed atmosphere that encourages physical activity while learning about the importance of eating healthy organic foods.
