As a member in Cityplot Amsterdcam I want to start a vertical gardening fence. Who's interested, please send ideas!!!
There's tons of things that you can grow vertically! Just takes a bit of plant research :D Anything that grows on vines, of course -- peas, beans, berry vines, cucumbers, squashes, melons can be grown vertically as well if they're dwarf sized and you're careful to give them extra support (have you ever seen those little net bags on some melons at the grocery store? Use a little bit of netting to surround your melon and hook it onto the fencing, it will take a bit of strain off your vines. And the leaves will LOVE all that extra sunlight access that they usually have to fight for on the ground!) Another idea, as well, is to grow your herbs this way: check this out! This ingenious person (you can find others around the web too) thought to use a large shoe organizer to grow smaller plants in. And it works pretty darn well, too! http://greenupgrader.com/8460/diy-vertical-herb-garden-with-a-shoe-organizer/ Please update us with what you decide to do with your vertical growing experiment, and how it turns out!
