You can grow your own food. And we can help!

Neighbors Helping Neighbors Garden

Neighbors helping Neighbors is our motto! Our food pantry is run by volunteers, and survives on donations. We plan on growing the most basic and nourishing kitchen staples (potatoes, onions, tomatos and lettuce) to supplement the diets of 2600 North Country folks. Currently, only a few families donate from their gardens, and the fresh foods always go quickly. The main beneficiaries of the food pantry are children, so we are planning to include a variety of vegetables to interest the kids in real food (who can resist the delight of a cherry tomato, or for more picky eaters, homemade mashed potatoes?!). We also plan on inviting the children and families to see the community garden, and encourage them to grow their own at home. This can lead to seed and seedling sharing as well as composting and cooking classes. Ideally, this can lead to food security, a better ecological footprint and economy. The secondary beneficiaries are seniors, and we all know how important good food is for health, and also, what a good source of wisdom the elderly are. Sharing meals together is an great way to knit our community, and this community garden is the first step to help us.

Thank you kindly~*
