You can grow your own food. We can help.

Medford High School Garden

We have a vision to expand our high school garden and garden club into an edible schoolyard and working farm for our district’s meal service program and school community. If successful, our project will produce a working and educational farm as the physical heart of our high school’s grounds.

Our underutilized and protected courtyard is visible from the main passageways through the school. The soils have been tested by the University of Massachusetts Extension Service and are safe to plant in for food production. Our garden club has established organic growing practices in the space and we plan to support them in continuing those approaches throughout the farm.  Our school’s produce will be served on our district-wide menus seasonally and will also be preserved. We anticipate that excess will be sold at the Medford Farmer's Market to provide additional financial sustainability into the future.

We believe that Medford Public Schools (MPS) has potential to become a role model for how a garden can engage a district’s entire community in making positive change.
