Little Sprouts Garden

Community Boys & Girls Club strives to teach healthy living to the 250+ youth who attend our programs daily.  Through our Healthy Habits & Healthy Kids program we would like to offer a community garden designed and implemented by the youth. The primary goals for the program are to teach the youth how to sustain a garden and provide healthy food items for them to use at home.   As they learn how to care for a garden they will learn about the many different types of vegetables, how to care for the plants, how to tell when they are ready for harvest and then enjoy the harvest.  The harvested produce will be shared with the families; over 98% of our youth receive free and/or reduced lunch at school and their family income does not always allow for fresh fruit and vegetables.  As the youth care for the garden they will also learn character and leadership skills, learn to live a healthy life style and get the benefit of exercise as they tend to their garden.
