You can grow your own food. We can help.

Jesses Garden

The Manistee Community Kitchen is a non-profit organization in Manistee Michigan whose goal is to combat hunger and obesity in Manistee County through education and increased access to healthy foods. We started a community pantry garden 3 years ago at Douglas Valley Winery and then moved it to Land of Goshen Farms in 2012.This year we have moved it to downtown Manistee next to our Iron Works Cafe Project and named it Jesses Garden in honor of Jesse Zimmerman who passed away tragically in 2009. His parents Jim and Ann donated money to get us started and the community pulled together to help build our garden.  In the past year we harvested over 4000 pounds of fresh produce that we delivered to all 7 local food pantries as part of our food rescue program. When we open our cafe project early in 2014 we will also use Jesses Garden to teach our students and other local residents how to grow organic produce.
