You can grow your own food. And we can help!

Howard County Food Bank Community Garden

We request $300 to purchase needed supplies for our Community Garden, which is sustained in an environmentally sensitive manner, exclusively by local volunteers.  Our Garden generates up to 2 tons of local organically grown fruits and vegetables each planting season.  All fresh produce is supplied directly to the Howard County Food Bank, which serves more than 22,000 food-insecure individuals and their families annually. Requested resources will enable us to both expand the quantity and enhance the quality of the yield generated by plantings optimally placed in six 90 square foot plots, using current best practices in organic gardening and food storage and service logistics. Our team at the Community Action Council of Howard County operates the Howard County Food Bank.  Hence, we can ensure that the provided resources will be invested in the most safe, efficient and productive manner from plantings to distribution of the fresh produce.  In addition to building our capacity to provide much needed healthy food, the receipt of the requested grant will provide the opportunity for us to enroll more volunteers and to publicize the participation of a highly respected partner in our Community Garden via placement of professionally written press releases and feature articles in print and online media
