Hoover YMCA Learning Garden

The Hoover YMCA Learning Garden is located south of the City of Columbus. It serves both rural and urban residents. The Learning Garden is a resource for the local community. We host school groups, scout troops, corporate volunteer groups, and local residents of all ages and abilities.

Since 2011, the YMCA of Central Ohio has operated a one-acre Learning Garden. The Garden provides  fresh produce for our Community Supported Agriculture Program (CSA) and for donations to local food pantries for families in need.

In 2013, we distributed over 12,000 lbs. of produce to families throughout Central Ohio. In addition to our work providing fresh produce for area families. The Learning Garden is also a demonstration garden for the local community. The Learning Garden is a vital part of the YMCA’s Summer Camp program. Summer campers range in age from 7-15 years old, the campers spend 2-3 hours per week in the Garden. The Learning Garden is a resource for the local community. We practice organic farming techniques and are eager to share our knowledge with community members and visitors to the Garden.  We have had over 2000 volunteers in the Garden over the last three years.

Our grant request is to fund the expansion of our vegetable production area and to expand and enhance our children’s learning garden.
