EGGS - Emmons Growing Garden SmartYard

EGGS - The Emmons Growing Garden will be a "SmartYard" - an outdoor learning area where children at every grade level from Kindergarten through Middle School will have the opportunity to learn math, science and responsibility as they work with teachers and community members to plan, create and maintain their garden plots in phase 1.  As the children plant and harvest a variety of fresh vegetables they will become better stewards of the environment. They will develop self-confidence, discipline and skills and learn to collaborate with community organizations such as Open Arms Mission, our local food pantry, to benefit food insecure families.  Phase 2 will include a chicken coop which will add increased opportunities for children to learn and value the importance of local food as they collect and share eggs produced by the chickens.  By participating in EGGS, children will develop an insatiable curiosity of the environment based on love, respect and appreciation.
