Dixon Teen Center Garden

The Dixon Teen Center (DTC) provides teenagers in Dixon, California with a safe place to build positive relationships, learn life skills, and obtain assistance in their educational endeavors. Several of the teens who come to the center are on the free and reduced lunch programs. After school workshops and classes at DTC provide our teenagers with various experiences they may not get during the school day, while the teens enhance their education and give them a well-rounded view of life. Teens are given incentives to get homework done (with the assistance of tutors as needed) and encouraged to participate in workshops for nutrition, finances, exercise, resumes/interviews, dating, anti-bullying, drug awareness and more!

We hope to build a garden with the teenagers at DTC in order to integrate our continuing nutritional education with hands-on work in a garden. The teens will be given support to plan their garden and gain leadership and group experience while growing their garden. The garden will also provide a safe environment at the Dixon Teen Center that encourages positive learning experience. The fruitful products from the garden will continue to allow the teens to grow a garden into meaningful project throughout the seasons.

The kids will build healthy relationships with DTC leaders and peers while growing, planting, and learning to cook healthy food options through the produce they grow. Dixon Teen Center is starting the 2014 year off with a garden that grows fresh produce!
