Children's Giving Garden

Our Christ Episcopal Church children's garden, started as a 10x20 square foot garden project to bring children of multiple ages learning and working together on a single project.  The children assisted through each stage of the garden.  They started seeds, assisted with each soil stage of virgin ground, planted seeds and starter plants, weeded, and harvested 15 pounds from our first garden in 2012.  All of the produce was donated to the Blaine WA Food Bank.  The 2013 goal was to double harvest (30 pounds).  We obtained a MAC Grant from the Bellingham WA Food Cooperative which enabled us to remove an existing structure and expand our garden with four raised beds.  We surpassed our goal and the children harvested 119.5 pounds, all of which was donated to the Blaine WA Boys and Girls Club, as the director at that time had expressed a need for fresh produce for the children.  Our 2014 goal is to expand the garden to create a berry patch and fruit trees for the 60-90 children of the Boys and Girls club.
