CFS Community Resource Team / Colonial Gardeners

In October 2012 we applied for  a Neighbourhood Development Grant from United Way and Peel region, we were very successful in getting the grant to start our garden project. As we live in a High Priority Neighbourhood it is very important to give back something progressive to the community where the residents woulh have a sense of belonging and feel that people do care about them.

This past Summer during our gardening project we did get a good number of residents participating, the project went very well with a number of activities they participated in. A lot of the participants stated they would love to see the garden up and running again next Summer.

This year we would like to sustain our Community Garden project by expanding our garden to include another plot. The project will be open to members of the community in The Collegeway and Colonial Neighbourhood. Throughout this project we believe we will continue to positively influence our participants and have a positive impact on the neighbourhood. Our main goal is to bring our neighbours together as one to enable them to support each other. It will also engage them in other community events in the future. They will also learn a number of tangible skills on how to maintain their own garden, also  learn to work as a team and build trust while bonding together as supportive resources in the neighbourhood.
