Still trying to grow a 6 foot long Carrot

Well,my annual conquest to grow stupidly long root vegetables has started yet again. I'm trying to grow some that are good enough to justify me entering into the North of England show. It's a bit of a daft hobby but I enjoy it and so do the other competitors. Preparation is the key so I've been boring holes in barrels and boxes of sand to grow the Carrots and Parsnips in and we'll see how they go. Did a YouTube video showing the procedure. What is the longest carrot you have grown? or seen? Do you have to dismantle your deep box to harvest a super-long carrot intact? I saved a photo from photo.net of a smiling Englishman with his prize long carrots - maybe three feet? They do look like they were grown in a special setting such as your video describes. Do you find that you discover other growing insights along the way when you set out on one of these adventures?
