Yarmouth Community Garden

Jun 27, 2013

Yarmouth Community Garden harvested its first lettuces, spinach, chard and micro greens last week. Mother Nature gave us a cool (cold!) spring, thus the slow start. The Yarmouth Community Food Pantry, Meals-on-Wheels and seniors living at Bartlett Circle and Yarmouth Falls are the beneficiaries of our twice weekly harvests. The garden produces approximately 3000 pounds of vegetables each year.

Our permanent fencing project is in the planning stage with the goal to install it this fall. With poor spring weather, the rush to plant and the need to get the details right on this big capital improvement, we felt more time was necessary and the fall a better time to set the fencing. After 10 years of floppy, removable fences, it will be a huge improvement to have a  strong, permanent fence. Many thanks to Kitchen Gardeners for its contribution to this project.
