Audrey Loves Vegetables!

On June 11, Healthy Community Coalition (HCC) in Farmington, Maine held an event at the Hope Harvest Community Garden.  Community members and Franklin Community Health Network employees were invited to view the garden and learn from Master Gardeners through hands-on experience how to pot their own container garden plant.  Participants could choose from a number of plants including several varieties of tomatoes, peppers, leeks, eggplant and herbs.

Two year old Audrey was very eager to plant an eggplant in her black pot.  Audrey was with her mother and neither of them had any experience with gardening. They spoke with a Master Gardener about starting their own garden and visited the education table to learn about canning vegetables.  The mother explained that Audrey eats more vegetables than her 6-year old sister and that she loves broccoli!  This experience has given Audrey and her mom information about gardening and the support needed for them to start their own garden.
