Starting my "winter" crop
Two days ago, I have started my own winter indoor garden. I used a bookcase that I no longer use and filled up half of it with 12 inches of soil (some of it my own compost) and the other half with at least 6 inches.
Since carrots need 12 inches or more of soil, I started two varieties (organic and non-GMO) Tendersweet & Scarlet Nantes in half of the bookcase.
The other half is Dwarf Blue Kale & Bloomsdale Spinach.
I also started rooting some green onions that were purchased at MOM's as well as trying to root some kale i purchased from a local MD farm. Did you know that green vegetables last longer when they are sitting in water? Wow!
