A Dream Comes True

In 2005 I was homeless and living at a shelter in Alfred, Maine, suffering from untreated mental illness and alcoholism. While there I volunteered at a food pantry found on the same campus. I am also a certified Master Gardener and at that time was helping a fellow Master Gardener with a historic garden plot. One day as I was working in the garden, I looked up and saw the line forming outside the pantry door. As I had just stocked the pantry, I knew there was absolutely no produce available to them. It occurred to me that if I could get any one of them to help farm a plot, they could take everything they produced.

As nine years passed, my dream has come true. With the generous Sow It Forward Grant through KGI, my dream to help families find food security has begun. The enclosed photo can barely depict the wondrous site of plant life taking root. Our families are working hard to bring in a bountiful harvest.

Thank you so much for your support, you helped me reach a level of satisfaction and hopefulness that has always eluded me.
