Rock squeezed through dirt

May 16, 2014

Hey guys! So I was planting tomatoes yesterday in my garden and I found a rock that was about 2 inches wide and it looked like it was being squeezed through the earth. It was surrounded by some red mud and I was thinking that this looked very strange. Have any of you guys seen this before?

Hey there. Was just beginning to get my planting started for the year and I also found some weird little stone in my garden. It was a little 2 or 3 inch stone and it looked to have been pushed up out of the ground in some reddish dirt or clay. Pretty sure it was clay. I'd never seen this red clay in my garden before so I got curious and dug a bit directly under where the stone was and it seemed to go pretty far down. I haven't noticed this happen in my yard or garden before. Has anyone else around Greenwich CT experienced anything similar?
Not Greenwich, but I live nearby, in Norwalk. The EXACT same thing happened to me last week. A 5 inch rock shot out of my vegetable garden on Friday, and it too was surrounded by the red clay. I didn't dig it up, though. But there were patches of the red clay clinging to the rock afterwards. It looked like something underground had forced it to the surface.
I live in New Haven, CT. Yesterday, as I started my prepping my plans for the gardening season, I had a similar experience. I found a small stone in my garden. It was about 4 inches and had risen through the ground. It looks like it has been forced upward and is surrounded by a red, clay-like substance. I am trying to find others who have seen this before. Anyone else?
