Sowing Forward Our Community Through Gardening
The heat of the summer has finally set in and our gardens are thriving at Hyalite Elementary! Spinach is overflowing from the beds, sunflowers are reaching towards the sky, and beets are becoming more and more robust by the day. With kids out of school there are less hands to tend to the young plants, but luckily the community is eager to be involved. Community members water, weed, harvest, and enjoy the gardens on a daily basis--interest in helping out seems to grow by the day!
Thanks to our KGI Sow it Foward Grant, we were able to purchase tools, watering attachments, buckets for harvesting and washing produce, and more for our community members who tend to the gardens. We look forward to spending the remaining funds to further increase our gardening capabilities!
KGI is a nonprofit community of over 30,000 people who are growing some of our own food and helping others to do the same.
