Windham Community Garden Extends Its Season

Jun 26, 2013

The Sow It Forward Grant  monies are being used to purchase materials such a fabric to cover the floor of our new hoop house.  The hoop house materials have arrived and will be assembled in the coming weeks.  The soil has been prepared with the proper amendments.  We will be planting late season crops such as a variety of greens and root vegetables that will sustain the local food pantry through the fall.

The Ark Institute donation of seeds was a  nice addition and have been used by many of our gardeners.  The book “The Year Round Vegetable Gardener” has been making its rounds through our board and there is very helpful information in it.

The donation of a gift card to Gardeners  Supply has not been spent yet as we are waiting until the hoop house is up and we see what supplies we need to get all of our seeds started.  It is anticipated that we will need a new hose and some fencing.

We truly appreciate the grant monies that have been awarded to us and look forward to the construction of the hoop house so we can all be learning more about four season gardening here in Windham, Maine.
