Birchwood Family Garden

We are very excited to apply for this grant, Sow it Forward! Our school, Birchwood Intermediate School, located in Melville, New York comprises three grade levels (3-5) and roughly 675 students. Our school is equipped with an SBM (Student-Based Management) Team which meets monthly to work for the benefit of the school and its stakeholders.

Our team decided that we would love to contribute to the beautification of our school so that it makes the students realize how important our garden will be. We have decided that the mission and goals of our garden will be to have the students as the drivers of the success of the garden. Each grade level will take turns caring for and watering the garden rotating based on a schedule provided for them. We anticipate this will allow students to become active learners and become knowledgeable about their worthwhile endeavor.

Our hope is that the families that visit our school will also contribute by spending time at school functions to help care for our Birchwood Garden. Our community is very family-oriented and we have a fantastic school community. Our goal is to help children see the significance of a beautiful garden, become learners, and pass it forward to others as they participate in this wonderful expeience.
