Bayside Park Farm
As an educational farm, our mission at the Bayside Park Farm is to provide our local community with opportunities to learn about and participate in sustainable organic farming. We also provide those in our foodshed with access to local, organically grown, seasonal produce. Our main methods for distributing our produce is through our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, farmers' markets, local restaruants, an on-site farm stand and donation to local organizations and events. There are several avenues for community member involvement such as drop-in volunteer days, an intensive internship program, tours, workshops, and partnerships with other community organizations. Last year, we organized several community events such as outdoor movie nights at the farm, potluck dinners, tours and open house days. My goal for this upcoming farm season is to expand these opportunities by developing a formalized curriculum for the internship program and planning more community events. Our interns and volunteers are rewarded for their effors by being able to take home produce each time they participate at the farm. We also have u-pick opportunites during our community events. Furthermore, our partnership with the Farm to School program brings elementary school children to the farm and this year we intend to set aside a section of the farm to devote to a "Kid's Garden" where the participants will be able to do ongoing projects and experiments.
KGI is a nonprofit community of over 30,000 people who are growing some of our own food and helping others to do the same.
