You can grow your own food. We can help.

Alexandra Parade Primary School Allotment

The allotment will serve all the children who currently attend the school. The school and staff involved wish to increase the children’s understanding of where their food originates from and to develop the children's awareness of seasonality. The allotment will also serve as a space where children can work in partnership with local agencies and organizations that will share in their knowledge of producing food. These partnerships will allow children to develop relationships with positive role models and will help them gain an increased sense of confidence. For many of the children the allotment may be the only access they have to an outdoor growing space. This will provide them with an opportunity to learn more about the natural environment and to develop an understanding of sustainable living. For many children participation in this project will allow them to make more informed choices about their diet and lifestyle as well as developing an understanding of environmental issues.
